Micro components
Minute mechanical components are still often manufactured using mechanical manufacturing processes, etching, eroding or laser cutting.
The opportunities offered by modern lithography processes with laser, UV light and X-rays path the way to completely new methods, that enable cost-efficient mass production of such parts by galvanic deposition.
The production of micro-components by electroplating is still a relatively new technology.
The main advantage compared to other manufacturing processes is that almost any type of complex parts with extremely variable material thickness (gears, shaving foils, micro sieves, micro filters, etc.) can be produced at a high manufacturing rate within a short period of time.
The galvanically produced products can consist of pure materials such as nickel as well as alloys such as nickel iron or nickel cobalt.

Microstructures in display technology or for micro and nanostructured mould inserts are frequently produced by replication processes, i.e. the microstructures are moulded via a microstructured stamper.
The microstructured stampers are often produced by lithography, followed by microgalvanics.
The microstructure is transferred onto a polymer foil or layer using injection moulding, embossing or UV-curing processes. Microstructures are used for light management, backlights, bi-stable displays, 3D displays, OLED's, etc.
