Micro electroforming for optical storage media: music, video or data are replicated using nickel stampers

technotrans CD/DVD systems are a key technology in the production of optical data storage discs.

The technotrans unit copies a highly precise metallic tool insert for the replication system from a lithographically produced, mechanically sensitive glass master.

This tool insert is referred to as a stamper, consists of pure nickel and contains all data and information for the end product.

Pure nickel is deposited from an electrolyte on the surface of a glass master in an electrochemical process. Hereby the nickel molecules fill in the structure on the glass master and produce an exact copy.

The so produced nickel disc normally has a thickness of 295 µm (micrometers). At least one stamper is required for each new order or title.
