2008-06-09:  technotrans supplies ink roller technology for manroland

As part of a strategic partnership, technotrans AG and manroland AG have agreed that technotrans AG ink roller temperature control units will in future be fitted as the original equipment on manroland sheet-fed presses. technotransAG, a leading systems supplier of peripheral equipment for offset printing, has for many years been one of the leading players in the market in this product category.

"We have taken this decision in the interests of using resources optimally along the entire value added chain and in line with our product strategy for peripheral equipment," explained Rudolf Hartmann, Area Head of Purchasing at manroland in Offenbach. "We are consciously looking for a long-term strategic partnership with one of our key systems suppliers."

"As a systems supplier, technotrans concentrates on special expertise that appropriately complements the core skills of printing press manufacturers," added Henry Brickenkamp, member of the Board of Management of technotrans AG. "We are in a position to provide superlative technology in that area and are therefore able to make developments such as improved energy efficiency available to a wide market." The technotrans Board of Management is consequently exceptionally pleased at manroland's decision, which it believes comes as further endorsement of the company's strategic direction.

2008-06-05: Swiss newspaper printer opts for blanket cleaners

Debut for contex.c in newspaper printing / installation on a Goss Universal 50 in second half of 2008

The first cleaning system from the contex.c product series for installation on a newspaper press has been ordered by a customer from Switzerland. technotrans AG, systems supplier for offset printing, is to install the first 40 cleaners on a GOSS Universal 50 at Zehnder Print AG in Rickenbach (Switzerland) in the second half of 2008. This was announced on June 5, 2008 during the drupa industry exhibition.

"We were swayed by the innovative technology and the results of extensive tests conducted in preparation for this decision," commented Printing Centre Manager Alexander Honsel. "Due to the sharp rise in the capacity utilisation of our facilities during peak times, we are compelled to exploit whatever potential there is for boosting efficiency. Bearing that in mind, the technotrans systems offer a wide range of advantages that genuinely impressed us," added Andreas Zehnder, Managing Director of Zehnder Print AG.

"As a systems supplier we can provide our customers not just with products, but with entire solutions from a single source. As well as installing the cleaners, we have secured the contract for extending the ink supply system on the press," remarked Henry Brickenkamp, Board of Management Spokesman of technotrans AG. "And we are delighted to celebrate this new landmark in accessing the new product area of cleaning systems with such a renowned customer."

At Zehnder Print AG in Rickenbach, a workforce of around 110 specialists produces three daily newspapers ("Wall Street Journal Europe", "International Herald Tribune" and ".ch"), 35 weekly newspapers, a variety of periodicals, telephone directories and various commercial web products. The company is part of the Zehnder Group, which is based in Wil, Switzerland. The group can genuinely be described as exceptional. Established in 1856, it now covers three areas of business: the Publishing Division with 27 weekly newspapers and three magazines, the Production Companies Division, and the Service Companies Division that operates cinemas, fitness centres and restaurants. The production companies include a copy centre, Zehnder Print AG and Rolf-Peter Zehnder AG in Wil.
Overall, the group employs around 450 people.

Delighted at the deal:

Ernst Gaugenrieder, technotrans Gersthofen Branch Manager

Andreas Zehnder, Managing Director of Zehnder Print AG

Henry Brickenkamp, technotrans AG Board of Management member

Alexander Honsel, Zehnder Print AG Printing Centre Manager

Offering tomorrow`s offset today

technotrans at drupa 2008

technotrans AG, one of the leading system suppliers for offset printing will be highlighting three main themes at the world's largest exhibition for the printing industry: efficient processes; stable production; and environmentally sound printing. One of the highlights of the technotrans’ stand at this year's trade fair is the first ever presentation of the entire product range of blanket cleaning systems. In addition, the low-energy combination unit for dampening solution circulation and ink unit temperature control will be demonstrated.

Cloth and brush-based series of cleaning systems

With the contex product range, technotrans offers for the first time its comprehensive range of different cleaning systems for blanket and impression cylinders. In doing so, it is expanding its market position as a systems supplier considerably. The development of this completely new product range focused on increasing the productivity of the printing press, i.e. on extending the direct machine availability. In contrast to existing systems, each model in the range has unique selling points, which offer the user many advantages.

The self-developed contex.c for use in sheetfed offset printing offers greater cloth length, reduced washing time and less cloth consumption. Pilot customers running the new blanket washers have confirmed significantly longer replacement intervals and impressive ease of use.

For newspaper printing, technotrans has acquired the supplier rotoclean and has successfully continued to develop its solutions. With contex.mb, which cleans with a narrow, moveable brush, printing companies are using an economical and effective solution for a fully automatic cleaning process. In combination with the washing agent recycling system ecoclean.line, contex.mb offers an exceptional concept for clean and environmentally friendly production.

The product range for cleaning in newspaper and heatset printing is rounded off with yet another proprietary development. The contex.lb cleans the blanket with one continuous brush. This system features innovative dosing and flicker bar technology, a particularly low washing agent consumption and automated liquid transport. Here too, technotrans has developed a product which helps protect the environment and noticeably reduces operating costs.

CO2 emissions drastically reduced. Voluntarily today – compulsory tomorrow?

The enhanced/improved combination unit beta.c eco offers a unique combination of free cooling, power-controlled components, high-quality filtration and precise dosing technology for sheetfed offset applications. It is a highly economical and ecological system for dampening solution circulation and ink unit temperature control. With beta.c eco, the main focus of attention is on the economic aspects, which make lower operating costs possible in the medium and long-term operation. One of the main goals is a noticeable reduction of the energy demand and thus the emission of environmentally harmful CO2.

Cooling of ink units for up to 80 % of annual operation can be carried out directly via the free cooler, meaning that the refrigeration unit requires correspondingly less energy. The dampening solution service life is significantly increased by the standard use of the two-stage fine filtration system beta.f. This reduces the amount of fresh dampening solution required cutting the level of additives and IPA. Higher filter service life, lower consumables consumption and easier disposal all contribute toward cost reduction. According to technotrans, the combination of all these effects contribute to a halving of the operating costs using the beta.c eco.

technotrans will also be presenting a new version of the delta.d line for dampening solution preparation on heatset presses. This improved design concept particularly meets the increased demand for energy efficiency in refrigeration as well as higher operational safety, especially where there are relatively heavily contaminated dampening solution circuits.

Dampening solution filtration system as a cost-saving device for every application

Likewise, technotrans describes its solution for the dampening solution filtration system as an "investment in savings" for every application. The fine filtration unit beta.f for medium and large-format sheetfed offset presses has already proven itself on the market and has now been adapted for the smaller formats with the solutions alpha.f and basic.f.

For the web offset presses, technotrans presents the spinclean.d, a consumable-free system for the dampening solution fine filtration and, for newspaper printing the delta.f with cross-flow filtration, which also works without consumables.

The collective result of all these solutions is perfectly clean dampening solution and a clean system. Less time is spent on cleaning and dampening solution replacement, so the machine has less downtime. The reduced time and effort results in a considerable reduction of operating costs and maximum machine availability.

The technotrans presentation at drupa 2008 is complemented by a series of proven and improved solutions. Here you will find expanded applications in the area of central ink supply, a new concept in spray dampening systems (including a special dampening solution circulation) and systems for the central water cooling and solutions for coating circulation.
