Evolution has invested in a comprehensive and integrated technotrans’ ancillaries package for the Komori LS1040 long perfecting press it has installed at its Cheshire factory.
The technotrans equipment includes alpha.r reverse osmosis, beta.c combination dampening and temperature control unit, a beta.f dampening filtration system and ink.trac automatic levelling and barrel pumped inking system.
“Quality is paramount to us so we require a high level of control,” says works manager Barry Burke. “We handle short and long run high quality work for key players in the industry.
”We want the press operators to be able to concentrate on the print going through the press rather than worrying about ink, dampening or temperature levels. I have used technotrans equipment before and know its reliability.”
The ink is supplied by Flint Inks in 200 kilo barrels. Buying in bulk is cost effective and at the end of the week when the press is turned off the company runs the ducts down so that there is minimal waste.
While the fount dosing, temperature control, dampening and filtration functions are incorporated into Komori’s central press console the ink system operates with sensors automatically dispensing ink in the duct, with levels easily adjusted via digital control on each ink.trac leveller. A warning signal at the pumps alerts the operator when any of the process inks or varnishes are running low.
“I ensured I could make the cyan and magenta interchangeable because this can be advantageous with trapping issues on some jobs,” says Mr Burke. “In fact it’s very easy; you just click one out and the other in.”
With the beta.f fine filtration unit, the company is minimising maintenance with filters changeable only about once a quarter. It also saves money on chemistry and disposal waste, as dampening solution life is extended significantly.
